Well, extrafont need more in-field testing for the different Linux platforms,
but I think, YES, it could be included in the Tk core, extending the 'font' command.

How can I detect if a given pathname refers to a file on the native-OS filesystem, or in a vfs virtual filesystem ?

I know that TDK it no longer supported but I read a thread here back in Feb 2017 suggesting that tclcompile and tbcload may be open sourced at some stage...
